Personal

Open

So that's half this summer's walking dates nuked out then. Suffolk finally opens all paths today, after closing them almost four months ago.

What's been interesting is the number of local councils that have started publishing maps online detailing which paths are open. If this leads to a shift wherein the official Definitive Maps are moved from dusty library storerooms and onto the web I'll be thrilled.

Another useful link I've found is to the Institute of Public Rights of Way Officers, a body I'd not been aware of before, and one which has been useful in telling which areas are still closed off.

The Foot and Mouth outbreak has hit other people far more than me, but it's been frustrating to see the days warm up without any opportunity to get outside. Last time was 1967. Let's hope we get at least another thirty-five years before this happens again.
