Father Broadband

Any other day I'd have been annoyed to be woken at two-thirty in the morning. But to us the phone tinkling in the early hours was the equivalent of hearing reindeer footsteps on the roof. I closed my eyes and went back to sleep, hoping.

When we woke, Emma and I turned to each other. "Did you hear it?" ... "Do you think?"

[All the green lights]

We hadn't been dreaming. Broadband - like Father Christmas - had come in the night.

When it became clear a month ago that the phone and broadband service hadn't been connected on the day of our move as agreed, Emma asked, "Isn't there someone you can call?" Everyone who's asked me a similar question in the past will now know I was telling the truth when I said there wasn't. (But a polite email to the Chief Executive on Wednesday seems to have done the trick.)

All the green lights are now lit. We're back online. Normal service is resumed. Sorry for the extended absence.
