Coastwalk

Amroth → Pendine

[Jez on Marros Beacon]

Distance: 5.52 miles
Ascent: 500 metres
Duration: 2 hours 38 minutes

A matter of speed
« Shrinkle Haven | St Clears »

The plan for these few days before the festival was to walk from the end of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in Amroth round to the start of the Gower peninsula. A case of getting the boring coastline out of the way on my own, and saving a renowned beautiful section for next time.

It's not quite worked out that way.

Three reasons. Spending the weekend in Aberystwyth means the schedule's two days out. Secondly, Jez has come up to walk with me today and tomorrow, and finally, we were both too tired on arrival at Pendine to continue all the way to St Clears as originally planned.

But Amroth to Pendine made for a great walk. The path closely follows the coast most of the way, providing views across to the Gower and finally the long stretch of sand at Pendine.

[Mr Whippy on Pendine Sands]

The local tourist industry won't let anyone forget that Pendine was the home of the land speed record for a number of years, and today its wide sandy beach was full of holidaymakers. In a brief daydream I saw Mr Whippy try for a speed record of his own, only to be overtaken at the last minute by the heavy horse carrying tourists along the sands.

I guess this means I've relaxed.
