Coastwalk , South West Coast Path

Exmouth → Budleigh Salterton

Distance: 5.4 miles
Ascent: unknown
Duration: 2 hours

Stopping for a while
« Starcross | Sidmouth »

A short walk to finish our time in Exmouth. Budleigh Salterton is the next town to Exmouth on the coast, and the path is well known to anyone who borrows Mum's flat. I was frustrated that we didn't go further, but it made sense to just walk in the morning and drive home over lunch.

Coastwalk , South West Coast Path

Teignmouth → Starcross

[Shag Rock]

Distance: 9.7 miles
Ascent: unknown
Duration: 6 hours

The train beach
« Shaldon | Exmouth »

(The distance summary covers Teignmouth to Starcross, then around the Esplanade in Exmouth.)

We used to visit Gran for a week every summer. The holidays developed a regular pattern, and before long the beach to the north of Teignmouth fast became our favourite. We knew it as The Train Beach since the mainline to London runs along the seawall here, sandwiched between crashing waves and deep red sandstone cliffs.

Today's walk started at Teignmouth and followed the railway all the way to Starcross.

Scattered childhood memories
« Brixham | Teignmouth »

It's half-term, so Jez and I are spending a few days together at Mum's flat in Exmouth. (We've not been away together before; it's rather strange - aren't brothers meant to do this all the time?)

Jez is up for walking, so we'll spend the next few days chipping away at the South-West Coast Path, the UK's longest single path.
