Personal

The Deben

[The Deben at night]This is what I wish for you: the stillness of the river,
the gently chiming masts, the last birdsong of day.
I wish you'd leave your world behind and melt into tomorrow,
that you could rest your troubled mind, forget about today.

I wish that you were with me. I'd lend you my warm black jacket.
We'd blend into the shadows of this dark October night.
Let the thunder roll in the distance, but a cool breeze caress your cheek.
Let me wrap you in my arms, be the soothing close to your week.

This is what I wish for you: the peace of the tidal river,
a place of quiet safety when we're two hundred miles apart.
